Pro-1MDB booklets distributed in UM, claims Dapsy

Youth wing says universities are learning sites for students and not brainwashing centres for the government.

PETALING JAYA: DAP Youth has alleged that pro-1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) booklets are being distributed by  (UM)’s student affairs division in an attempt to brainwash students.

In a statement today, Dapsy Varsity Affairs Bureau Director Leong Yu Sheng, claimed hundreds of booklets, entitled “1MDB, Siapa Kata Tidak Dijawab – Edisi Baru” (1MDB, Who Says It Is Unanswered – New Edition) were being circulated by UM personnel at it residential college.

The booklet was allegedly published by the Special Affairs Department (Jasa).

The staff, it was also claimed, had informed students they had been instructed to distribute the books by the student affair’s division.

“We suspect that the student affairs division of other public universities have plans to distribute the propaganda material by Jasa too after this.

“The student affairs division should be reminded that public universities are learning sites for students, not the government’s brainwashing centre.”

Dapsy also said there was a need to review the University & University Colleges Act (UUCA) that granted enormous power to the student affairs division.

1MDB is the state investment arm that has been plagued by controversy following exposés by the Sarawak Report and The Wall Street Journal.
