Two-year-old trapped in car while mum in supermarket

A two-year-old girl was trapped for about40 minutes in a locked car in a parking area of a supermarket in Bayan Baru, Penang, today.
Maisarah Dhia Ameera Mohd Azlan Shah was sleeping when her mother left her in the Proton Waja car after switching off the ignition key.
However, when the woman returned a short while later upon hearing the car alarm, she found the car locked and the car key inside the vehicle.
Bayan Baru Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Zainol Mat Isa said the station was alerted of the incident at 11.59 pm and firemen had to smash a window screen of the car to save the girl.
"The child is alright, except sweating because of the heat," he said when contacted.
Meanwhile, Maisarah Dhia Ameera's mother, Hanim Hashim, 32, when contacted, said she left her child, who was sleeping then, in the car, only to pick up something from a friend in the supermarket.
"I asked passers-by to help me, and when they, too, could not open the door, they called the Fire and Rescue station," she said, still traumatised by the incident.
