UMNO TO SPLIT IN TWO: MUHYIDDING LIKELY TO BE SACKED ON FRIDAY - WILL MUKHRIZ, DR M FACE SAME FATE

PETALING JAYA - Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s days in Umno could be numbered. The deputy president will know his fate in the party on Friday when the Supreme Council holds its monthly meeting.
Council member Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said he would head a movement to have Muhyiddin suspended for continuously attacking party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
On Monday, the tourism minister urged Muhyiddin to quit the party if he could not help the president in his capacity as the deputy.
Several other Supreme Council members have also called for Muhyiddin to be suspended for making open statements against Najib.
Among them is Datuk Seri Hasan Malik, who told Malay Mail that Muhyiddin had missed the opportunity to mend relationship with Najib and stern action should be taken against him.
“The relentless attacks would not benefit Umno and as such stern action should be taken if he does not stop immediately,” he said.
“Muhyiddin has been given a lot of chances to rectify the mess he made but his recent action showed he did not carry out his responsibility as a deputy president to assist the president as stipulated in Umno’s constitution.”
Hasan said Muhyiddin still had room to voice out his dissatisfaction through the use of proper channels.
“He can even speak out and discuss such matters or his dissatisfaction during the party’s Supreme Council meeting,” he said.
“If he cares about the party, he should stop now as his attacks would only put Umno in a bad light.”
He said it was the duty of the council to make political transformation for the betterment of Umno.
The former domestic trade cooperative and consumerism minister also urged Muhyiddin to help in improving and restoring public confidence in the government, as well as overcome negative perceptions through social media.
Another Supreme Council member, Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, said the recent attacks by the deputy president were uncalled for.
“Making open statements would only make matters worse and it is saddening that Muhyiddin had made assurances that he would continue to strengthen the party but he did not,” he said.
Abdul Rahman said Muhyiddin should refrain from raising issues that would create confusions and cause a rift in the party.
Supreme Council member Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi said Muhyiddin should stop attacking the party leadership, particularly the president which would weaken the party.
“We have to focus on the general election and Muhyiddin should sincerely help the president, not continue attacking him,” he said.
“He should quit if he has lost trust in Najib.”
Muhyiddin had lashed out at the Umno Supreme Council on Saturday, saying he was not afraid of threats to expel him, and warned it not to take action unless there was enough evidence against him.
Muhyiddin had repeatedly asked Najib to step down as prime minister and Umno president after a barrage of criticisms over his handling of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issues. - Malay Mail
