Aussie journos may face action if they return to Malaysia

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the government may take action against them following their critical report on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak,

"It's proven that they came here to question the prime minister in their capacity as journalists which they did not get permits for.

"So after this we will take appropriate action," he told reporters in the parliament lobby today.

When asked what action would be taken, he replied: "If they come here, we will decide. Let them come here first."

On whether they would be deported, Nur Jazlan said that would be up to the immigration department, but noted that there was "good reason" to do so.

Four Corners' journalist Linton Besser and camera operator Louie Eroglu were previously arrested and deported from Malaysia during the shooting of the documentary earlier this month, after they tried to pose questions regarding the cash flows into Najib's account.

Yesterday, they aired a documentary claiming they had been shown details of Najib's accounts by an unnamed 'high-level source'.

The documentary, titled 'State of Fear: Murder and Money in Malaysia' also claimed that Malaysians live in constant fear of arrest.

Nur Jazlan dismissed this as an attempt to tarnish Malaysia's image. -Mkini
