Don’t be the enemy within, Azalina warns Umno members

Supreme council member cannot understand why Umno members want to remain in the party if they support the Opposition and the People's Congress.

PETALING JAYA: Umno members who attended the People’s Congress yesterday must decide if they still want to remain in the party or toe the Opposition’s line, says Azalina Othman Said.

“Don’t be the enemy within,” the Umno supreme council member warned them in a brief statement today.

Among the Umno leaders who attended the event were suspended Umno Deputy President Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.

Azalina, who is also a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said she wondered why Umno members would want to remain in the party if they supported a movement by the Opposition.

Umno, she said, did not want leaders whose hearts were not in the party as they were akin to traitors.

“They should find the courage to decide if they want to remain in the party or not.”

Yesterday’s gathering, spearheaded by former law minister Zaid Ibrahim as part of the Save Malaysia campaign, is an extension of the March 4 Citizens’ Declaration, calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak as well as for institutional reforms to take place.
