Education Ministry gets report on snipped tongue in Klang bully case

The Ministry of Education has received the preliminary report on a Year Two student who snipped off the tip of his own tongue after he was allegedly bullied by several Year Three students at
a school in Klang last Thursday.
Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan said the ministry was now waiting for the police to complete investigation on the case.
"We will not interfere with the police investigation. We will only conduct an investigation at the ministry level after we receive the full report from the police," he told reporters after opening a forum on national preschool quality standard in Kuala Lumpur today.
According to a newspaper report, the boy snipped off his tongue after being threatened by the Year Three students that they would punch him if he did not do as told.
The boy was then taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for treatment.
Previously bullied
Referring to the incident, Kamalanathan said it was why students were prohibited from bringing scissors and knives to school, unless instructed by teachers to do so.
"But some quarters questioned the ban," he added.
Meanwhile, Klang Selatan district police chief ACP Azman Abdul Razak, when contacted, said a report on the incident was lodged by the victim's mother at about 2.30pm yesterday.
He said the incident occurred at about 6pm at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Batu Unjur, Bukit Tinggi, in Klang.
"The victim, Muhammad Alif Shukran Alias, 8, was forced to snip off his own tongue if he did not want to be punched by five students at the school," he said, adding that police were investigating the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
Muhammad Alif Shukran's mother, Siti Nurhuda Ibrahim, 29, urged the relevant authorities to take necessary action to avoid a similar incident.
"Prior to this, my son had complained of being bullied by students at the school, but I am not sure if they are the same students involved in this case.
"According to my son, the five students involved in the case wore paper masks, before one of them handed him a pair of scissors and forced him to snip off his own tongue," she said. -Mkini
