Hishamuddin Hashim promoted as MACC Intelligence Division director

Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap is the new Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director, effective yesterday.
The former Negri Sembilan MACC director replaces Hishamuddin Hashim who has been promoted as MACC Intelligence Division director.
A handing-over of duty ceremony between Hishamuddin and Shaharom Nizam was held at the Sabah Federal Government Administration Complex and attended by state MACC branch heads and officers.
In his speech, Shahrom Nizam pledged to undertake his duties in a transparent manner and implement all operations planned by Hishamuddin.
“All Sabah MACC employees should raise their level of discipline to maintain the image of the commission as an institution of integrity and gain the confidence of the people on MACC,” he said.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Hishamuddin said during last year, the state MACC received 452 pieces of information from various channels.
Of the total, 126 investigation papers were opened on various offences which led to the MACC detaining 108 people, he said.
“Of those detained, 48 were charged in court with committing various offences,” added Hishamuddin.
On his most challenging time as Sabah MACC director, Hishamuddin said the issue of state birth certificate falsification, as well as ownership of land by ineligible individuals were some of the most difficult challenges confronting the commission.
