Kamalanathan not credible enough to talk on bullying

Deputy Minister and MIC President does not even realise Umno bullies non-Malay leaders in Barisan Nasional, reducing them to virtually nothing.

Deputy education minister P Kamalanathan is the last person on earth who should be talking about bullying in schools. He simply does not have the credibility to talk on this matter.
Apparently, he has taken pride in saying that the number of bullying cases in schools has dropped drastically. He attributed this to the efforts of parents, teachers and school supervisors who have taken appropriate action to curb its occurence.
While talking about bullying in schools, Kamalanathan seems oblivious as to how Umno treats MIC leaders. In fact, in comparison to schools, the worst form of bullying and intimidation takes place within Barisan Nasional where Umno leaders have reduced non-Malay leaders to virtually nothing.
Let us not forget that an Umno member punched Kamalanathan in his own constituency some years back. He landed in hospital but later forgave the Umno man who assaulted him.
He even told the police to refrain from taking action against the individual. A few months later however, Kamalanathan urged the police to take stern action against two Indians who had threatened him over another issue.
It is obvious that Kamalanathan wanted to punish two ordinary Indians who threatened him but was prepared to forgive the Umno man who assaulted him.
It is clear that when it comes to Umno leaders, Kamalanathan is “chicken”. He, like other non-Malay leaders, is prepared to put up with the antics of those from Umno, who are not even national leaders, but leaders at the local level.
Kamalanathan’s attitude is pathetic because he does not realise that the attack against him was an attack against the Indian community.
How can Indians in the country be taken seriously if leaders like Kamalnanathan, a deputy minister, allows an ordinary Umno leader to bully and intimidate him? For Kamalanthan, there is one justice for Umno Malays and another for Indians. While he is prepared to forgive Malays in Umno, he is not prepared to forgive ordinary Indians.
If the MIC has leaders like Kamalanathan, then the party should refrain from saying it represents Indians or term itself as the “mother” party.
As they say, “Charity begins at home”, but in this case “Bullying must stop in BN first.”
P Ramasamy is Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang.
