Rafizi to release OSA docs on Monday, says he’s standing up for army vets

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli is set to release documents protected under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) on Monday, which is likely to put him on collision course with the authorities, courting a possible two years’ jail term.
Rafizi said the classified documents can back up his claim that 1MDB is the reason why thousands of army veterans aren't getting their gratuity payments.
He has for several days now threatened to release the documents to force the Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) to come clean on the matter, but to no avail.
"If that (releasing OSA documents) is what it takes to get them to pay these people's gratuity payments, (then) it's worth it. There are thousands of families affected. These are poor people and they suffer in silence.
"I have no choice, how else can I do it?" said the father of a two-year-old son.
Rafizi said he had heard much of the plight of families of army veterans which have yet to receive their gratuity payments.
"I can't stand hearing the stories and people coming up to see me. I just want them to pay their gratuity payments," he said.
He said the government have a few days to sort out the matter before he makes the revelation on Monday.
Rafizi said he is unfazed by the prospect of possibly two years behind bars under the OSA.
"Why succumb to laws that are enacted to stifle the people in the first place," he said.
Rafizi had claimed that 1MDB diverted RM288 million it received from the government, meant for LTAT's subsidiary Perbadanan Perwira Harta Malaysia (PPHM), to pay off its own debt interest instead.
He claimed that up until September 2015, 1MDB still owed RM396.41 million to PPHM, thus causing LTAT to have insufficient funds to pay out gratuity to army veterans.
PPHM had acted as the turnkey contractor for 1MDB's upgrading works at eight air bases, which had to be undertaken in exchange for 1MDB being granted the Sungai Besi land bank to develop Bandar Malaysia. -Mkini
