Umno rebels’ leader expelled from party

CONGRESS Gabungan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia (GKCM) president Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman today revealed that he has been expelled from Umno.
Kamarul said he received a letter informing him of his sacking from the party two days ago from Umno’s current “most powerful person”, its secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
In his speech at the People’s Congress today, Kamarul however said he wants to say “thank you” to Tengku Adnan for expelling him from the party.
“But Ku Nan, I would like to tell you, I don’t give a damn about what you are going to do to me because you don’t have the right (to do so and) Umno doesn’t belong to you.
“I’ll still be in Umno!” he thundered.
Kamarul’s group, composed of disenchanted Umno branch leaders, had continuously spoken out against Najib and had repeatedly urged his resignation.
Meanwhile, Kamarul, earlier in his speech, said that his group - which is a new breed in Umno - was not scared of anyone.
Stating that he wanted to “take his hat off” to DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, Kamarul said people should not be scared of Lim.
“Malays, too, should not be scared of him. Who they should be scared of is Najib!” he said.
For opposition leaders like Lim and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, Kamarul pointed out how the best thing for them to do was to keep quiet and to let Umno rot.
“I don’t understand why they want to be together with (former premier) Dr Mahathir Mohamad. This means that their love for the country is greater than anything else.
“We, in Umno, will tell them that we are going to play this game fair and square,” he added.
Lim and Azmin, slated to speak at the congress today, were also among notable leaders who signed the Citizens’ Declaration earlier this month, demanding that Najib step down from his prime minister’s post. -Mkini
