Dr M will never apologise to Najib over 'slander', says Ali Rustam

Dr Mahathir Mohamad will not apologise to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak regarding 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion issue because the former premier is aware that the allegations are nothing but slander, said Umno supreme council member Mohd Ali Rustam.
The senator also claimed that Mahathir could be disappointed with Najib for not being supportive of his son Mukhriz.
“I am confident Mahathir will never apologise because he knows the allegations hurled by The Wall Street Journal and the opposition, especially DAP, are slander.
“Perhaps Mahathir is disappointed because Mukhriz was not picked as an Umno vice-president and sees the PM as not supporting Mukhriz,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.
Following Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir’s remarks that his country is aware of the donation and it was given without expectations, there have been widespread calls for Mahathir to apologise to Najib.
Meanwhile, Mohd Ali also reiterated that the special task force set up to investigate 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion issues must apologise to Najib.
The former Malacca chief minister said this is because the task force had given a negative impression that the prime minister committed wrongdoings.
The task force was headed by former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, and comprised the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Bank Negara.
Gani was replaced on health grounds soon after WSJ exposed the deposits into the prime minister’s personal bank accounts in last July.
Putrajaya, however, denied claims that Gani was axed to derail the task force’s investigations.
His successor later cleared Najib of any wrongdoing.
The government has also accused WSJ of allowing itself to be exploited by those seeking to topple Najib from power.
Responding to a question, Mohd Ali dismissed the need to sue WSJ over its articles. -Mkini
