Lessons for PM Najib in Clare vs RPK episode

YOURSAY | ‘Isn't it easy to sue and win when someone has written lies about you?’
Swipenter: The application of laws in the UK is blind. Blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) is under the delusion that the judiciary in the UK works the same way as in Bolehland, even though we share common laws derived from the same lineage.
English judges are held in high regard for their sound reasoning, integrity and impartiality in reading and applying the law; whereas our judiciary has allegedly degenerated into a laughing stock internationally.
Speaking Sense: Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown, like those who have integrity, will sue against false accusations; those who have no integrity only issue denials against what we must therefore assume are true accusations.
Anonymous 2405561458171517: Speaking Sense, you may not be familiar with the processes of suing for defamation.
First, the person who alleges defamation should issue a letter to the person who allegedly defamed him by complaining of defamation and demanding that the latter issues an apology and retracts the defamatory statement. If the latter refuses to comply with the demand, then the aggrieved person can go ahead and file a lawsuit.
In this case, Clare complained of alleged defamation and Raja Petra has subsequently retracted the article and expressed regret. As such, the demand has been complied with.
On 1MDB, however, did The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), etc, retract the allegedly defamatory articles? They did not. This is why many are demanding that the PM sues them.
Chouseefatt: The idea of going to prison is anathema to me. Which is why I wholeheartedly admire a man like Anwar Ibrahim who, given many chances to leave this country and remain a free man, chose to stay put and face his evil and perverted persecutors, Kelab Ketuanan Melayu aka Umno.
Now Anwar has been sentenced to five years for no sensible reason apart from posing a serious threat to Ketuanan Melayu, while Raja Petra enjoys a comfortable life in Manchester.
Who would you salute and who would you spit at in sheer disgust?
SusahKes: Sigh, what can you say about RPK? It wouldn't sound or look so bad on him, except that he has a self-righteous chip on his shoulder, one that he proudly wears.
His attitude is simple - you're either with him or against him. And he has no qualms using flowery language to insult, if you are in the latter category.
I guess it took a legal letter to shake him into a nervous wreck, and reveal him for what he truly is; a blogger who is of little substance and relevance, shouting loud only because life is cosy inside a Manchester pub.
What was that again? RPK? Oh yeah, Raja Putar Kuat.
Mushiro: RPK chickened out after Rewcastle-Brown complained. He took the article down from his site and expressed regret for any distress.
What about the numerous other articles against opposition leaders who do not bother to sue him? Does RPK respond only to 'orang puteh'?
Anonyxyz: Those who have been discredited or defamed by this blogger should try to file defamation suits against him in the UK.
Now caught with his pants down, he shamelessly denied he knew the authors and quickly apologises and takes down his accusations. This is a classic case of how money is the cause of all evils.
Guna Otak: Didn't this man say recently to "bring it on"? Now he has to eat humble pie, not the 681 tasty, delicious and anonymous "American pies". This only goes to show that the systems are working in the UK.
Otherwise, why would he apologise and take down articles he knows to be untrue? Also, ‘padan muka’ to the so-called ‘Open Source Investigation’. It is nothing but a disinformation blog.
Kit P: If a person is sure they have been defamed, what Rewcastle-Brown did is exactly the correct procedure in law.
PM Najib Abdul Razak's lawyers beating around the bush with WSJ is not the sign of anyone who is confident of their own truthfulness.
Existential T**d: In contrast with Rewcastle-Brown's gutsy move, the self-proclaimed Bugis warrior cannot hold a single candle to her. What a stark contrast.
6th Generation Immigrant: Just like the person of authority signing and not knowing what he signed for, the editor of the RPK blog also does not know what and whose articles he approved for publications.
This is certainly a new practice in Malaysian politics - make idiotic denials when caught and everyone can then be commanded to be fooled.
Anyway, we have already reached a state where questioning is not acceptable and classed as seditious no matter how apt and accurate the questions are.
Odin Tajué: Excuse me. I am not well versed in the technical aspects of websites maintenance and such, but I would have thought that articles cannot simply appear on your website, and that they can appear only on your approval.
Or, was this man telling us that some strange characters had hacked into his portal and inserted the articles?
RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: While many would like to condemn him, his actions of regrets should be viewed positively.
Firstly, he is quite a gentleman to admit his wrong. Many people would be ashamed to do just that. Admitting that one is wrong does not indicate weakness and this should be appreciated.
Secondly, and most important of all, this is an open admission that the reports on 1MDB and Najib are true.
This must be an eye opener for those Umno, MCA and Gerakan leaders who stupidly defend Najib's billions. I hope they can see the truth about Najib now.
Hmmmmmmmm: This story should serve as an inspiration to our beloved PM to go ahead and sue WSJ, Sarawak Report, etc. Isn't it easy to sue and win when someone has written lies about you?
Aquinas Says: I ended reading this article with a whoop and a yay! It's refreshing to see guys like him and his bravado go running with his tail behind his legs.
And all because he lives in jolly old England where the courts are not influenced by politicians
