PKR: Say hello to my little friend, Adil

S'WAK POLLS Opposition component PKR today launched its election mascot, Adil, a mini blue rhinoceros that the party said symbolises "confidence, endurance and reliability.
"It reflects the notion of our party struggle as well as our spirit of relentless endeavour all these years," the party's deputy information chief Ginie Lim said, in reading a statement.
Present for the launch in Kuching were state and national party leaders. The mascot also comes in a warrior form, similar to DAP's Ubah mascot's Iban warrior outfit.
The party says the rhino's ability to survive in adversity reflected the party's struggle: "Just like PKR in which we have numerous leaders arrested an prosecuted for political reasons since the establishment of our party."
"PKR espouses the progress-forward spirit of the rhinoceros, and we pledge to break the corrupt hegemony and racist politics of BN. We hope that the people of Sarawak can emulate the spirit of the rhinoceros and reject the corrupt regime amid the current economic and political crisis in our country," PKR said in a statement.
The party said it will begin selling the plush toy version of the mascot.
The May 7 election would see at least five mascots entering the fray.
DAP first launched its hornbill mascot 'Ubah' and upgraded it to the 'Ubah warrior' for the May 7 election.
Ubah received an overwhelming welcome in the 2011 state election, where tens of thousands of Ubah stuffed toys were sold.
It was considered a soft approach of the political party that captured the hearts of many.
Sarawak Independence Alliance (SIA) introduced the super badger in a red Superman cape, as its ambassador on April 12.
The mascot was meant to raise election campaign funds for the incumbent Pujut assemblyperson and SIA’s northern Sarawak leader Fong Pau Teck.
In March, the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) had launched its mascot - a yellow bee with a tagline “We Can Bee”, an appeal to party unity.
For its mascot, SUPP's splinter party, the United People's Party (UPP) chose a hawk. -Mkini
