Gas tariff to go up by 5.95pct, residential users not affected

The average gas tariff will be revised upwards by RM1.52/MMBtu, or 5.95 percent, from RM25.53/MMBtu to RM27.05/MMBtu, effective July 15, 2016, Gas Malaysia said.
The revision, however, will not affect the residential customers, where the tariff will stay at RM19.52/MMBtu, it said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today.
"As indicated by the Suruhanjaya Tenaga, the tariff revision is in line with the national rationalisation plan and Gas Cost Pass-Through mechanism that will see the revision of piped gas price taking place every six months.
"While the tariff revision has no material impact on Gas Malaysia's business operation, it is expected to contribute positively to the company's financial position for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2016," it said.
