PETALING JAYA: Another GrabCar driver was attacked this morning outside the Mid Valley Mega Mall by irate taxi drivers angry with him for invading their turf.
The GrabCar driver, a 35-year-old man, was attacked as he was picking up two customers at 2am from the shopping mall’s North Court lobby.
According to Brickfields District Police Chief ACP Sharul Othman Mansor, the victim was confronted by a taxi driver who stopped him and started scolding him for fetching passengers there.
The taxi driver then forced the passengers out of the car. They then left quickly.
Two other taxi drivers then tried to snatch the victim’s mobile phone, but failed.
One of them then asked him why he was fetching customers at the Mid Valley area, to which he said that he was only following his customers’ request.
One of the taxi drivers said that he had already smashed one other GrabCar, after which he kicked the victim and then proceeded to kick the car.
Many other taxi drivers were said to have appeared out of nowhere and joined in the attack on the car.
While the victim was not injured and refused treatment, his car suffered considerable damage.
Recently, police arrested a taxi driver who joined in an attack on a Uber taxi ferrying an Iranian student at KL Sentral. Police had then warned taxi drivers against taking the law into their own hands.
