Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has congratulated outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) head Abu Kassim Mohamed over his appointment as a visiting fellow with the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA).
He said the appointment is a recognition of the enforcement agencies in Malaysia and proved that the standard of enforcement officers in this country is held in high regard by the international body.
“What more, IACA is recognised by the United Nations,” he added in a media statement.
Khalid said Abu Kassim is not a stranger to the international police (Interpol) as he had been part of Interpol’s group of experts (IGEC) to combat corruption since 1997.
He revealed that the MACC commissioner was also involved in preparing the code of ethics for Interpol personnel worldwide.
“Throughout his tenure, MACC and the police achieved a close and professional working relationship to eradicate corruption.
“This manifested in the creation of a joint education programme,” he said.
This morning, Abu Kassim denied claims that he was pressured to relinquish his post, stating that he wanted to end his contract in order to contribute at an international level.
He also clarified that he would not bow down to pressure.
“It’s an opportunity which I simply cannot reject. It’s a golden opportunity that will help both me and the MACC,” he explained about his new appointment.- Mkini
