Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali said he would not wait for pressure to mount before stepping down, if he was charged of corruption as Penang chief minister.
"If it was me, I don't need to ask anyone else. No need to wait for people to pressure me.
"I myself (would step down), whether the accusations against me were politically (motivated) or not, that doesn't matter.
"What's important is self awareness. The people will judge. If you step down they will judge you and if you don't step down, they'll still judge you," Ibrahim said.
He said this when asked whether Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng should step down, following the graft charges against him.
Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today, Ibrahim said he was not qualified to ask Lim to step down.
"Who am I to say whether he should or shouldn't step down? Let the people judge... It's up to him as chief minister."
Lim is accused of having abused his power to approve the rezoning of agriculture land for housing, to the benefit of a firm owned by his landlord, Phang Li Koon.
He was also charged for allegedly purchasing the bungalow he was renting from Phang for below market price.
He has pled not guilty, and has voiced no intention to take leave or step down from his post as chief minister. -Mkini
