A senior citizen was reportedly set upon by a mob following a minor traffic accident at a Ramadan bazaar in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
According to reports by theSun and Harian Metro yesterday, the 76-year-old victim was driving slowly along Jalan Masjid India at about 7.20pm that day, when a motorcycle suddenly veered into his path and stopped.
“The senior citizen was unable to evade in time and knocked into the rear of the motorcycle.
The police are on the hunt for the 10 who are allegedly involved in the attack.
Rusdi reportedly said that thus far, only one witness has come forward to shed light on the incident.
However, theSun reported that the police are trying to ascertain the actual number of assailants and their identities through a video recording of the incident that had gone viral.
The video showed a chaotic situation surrounding a silver-coloured car with shattered windscreens, including a topless man who jumped onto the vehicle, and several others attempted to enter the car.
The video lasting over five minutes also depicted Kuala Lumpur City Hall enforcement officers who arrive to defuse the situation and clear a path for the badly-damaged vehicle to leave.
Harian Metro quoted Rusdi saying that the police are investigating the case under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possession of missiles or weapons at a riot, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief causing damages of more than RM25.
Section 148 is punishable by imprisonment of up to five years, with a fine, or both upon conviction.
Meanwhile, Section 427 is punishable by imprisonment between one to five years, with a fine, or both upon conviction.
