Another official from Gani’s era departs from AGC

Former deputy solicitor-general I Tun Abdul Majid Tun Hamzah's appointment as judicial commissioner yesterday marks the departure of another official, who is said to be close to former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail.
It comes in the wake of former solicitor-general Azailiza Mohd Ahad's early retirement in April, and former AG's Chambers head of prosecution Abdul Wahab Mohamed's departure last December.
The three movements from the AG's Chambers occurred after Mohamed Apandi Ali replaced Gani as attorney-general on July 28 last year.
Apandi was present yesterday when Tun Abdul Majid and lawyer Azmi Abdullah, 49, took their oath as judicial commissioners before Chief Judge of Malaya Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin.
The two will be posted in the high courts in Peninsular Malaysia.
Tun Majid, 55, was formerly the head of prosecution at the AG's Chambers before his last post as deputy solicitor-general I.
He had handled and led the prosecution in several high-profile cases, including the murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu, which he saw all the way through to the final appeal at the Federal Court.
He also handled the Port Klang Free Zone trial involving former transport minister Dr Ling Liong Sik.
Early retirement
Earlier this year, Ali Hamsa, the chief secretary to the government, confirmed that former solicitor-general Azailiza had opted for early retirement from the AG's Chambers.
This was despite earlier rumours circulating within the chambers that she opted to retire after she was transferred to another government department.
Azailiza, who was appointed solicitor-general on Nov 1, 2014, was said to have clocked out of the chambers on April 8.
She was replaced by Engku Nor Faizah Engku Atek.
Meanwhile, former AG's Chambers head of prosecution Abdul Wahab is presently serving in the Penang High Court, following his appointment as judicial commissioner on Dec 15.
His replacement is Zauyah Be Loth Khan, formerly the Selangor state legal adviser.
High-profile termination
Shortly after Apandi was sworn in as attorney-general last year, Jessica Gurmeet Kaur, an officer attached to the AG's Chambers, had her contract terminated and was threatened with deportation.

She had been part of the since-dissolved special task force investigating 1MDB - a team that comprised the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the AG's Chambers and Bank Negara.
She, along with former MACC adviser Rashpal Singh, were investigated over a leak of a purported charge sheet against the prime minister.
Jessica was replaced by Dzulkifli Ahmad, in the task force secretariat. Dzulkifli is now the MACC chief commissioner.
