Last year Erdogan was threatening Russia over Syria. In November 2015 the Turks shot down a Russian jet and then killed the pilot who had parachuted out.
In response Russia placed serious economic sanctions on Turkey. These included banning the import of Turkish vegetables and farm produce. Also banning all Russian tourist travel to Turkey. Plus other sanctions. Russia also threatened to shoot down any Turkish airplanes that flew over Syria, effectively putting a halt to all Turkish air operations in Syria.
Then on July 15th, there was the attempted coup in Turkey. Erdogan has openly blamed the US for plotting the coup. The EU has also not supported Erdogan at all in the aftermath of the failed coup. EU politicians are blaming Erdogan for "engineering"
the coup. Erdogan is feeling isolated and lonely.
The Turkish economy has suffered tremendously through all this.
Yesterday August 9th, 2016 Erdogan went begging to Russia to apologise to Putin and try to restore economic ties between the two countries. You can say that Putin now has Erdogan by the cojones.
Erdogan : I am sorry. I have been such a pr*ck. I am a Muslim you know. I have to maintain the image.
Putin : Keep going. I am listening.
Erdogan : I cant stand cabbages for breakfast, lunch and dinner anymore. Can you lift the ban on Turkish vegetables into your country? Please?
Putin : Didnt your mother tell you that vegetables are good for you. You should eat more vegetables.
Erdogan : We have cabbages coming out of our ears. My wife does not know where to put them. Please lift the vegetable ban.
Putin : Since you are such a gas bag, I want you to allow our gas pipeline through Turkey to Europe.
Erdogan : The Americans and Europeans will have my head if I allow that to happen. That is exactly what they did to Syria when Assad refused their gas pipeline.
Putin : Why dont you just shoot down their airplanes. Lets see what happens.
Erdogan : The US plotted that coup. The Europeans were very late to condemn the coup attempt. This is not acceptable. I will teach them a lesson. That is why I am here in Russia.
Putin : You are not just any pr*ck. You are a dumb pr*ck.
Erdogan : OK tell me what should I do?
Putin : I want you to minimize your assistance to the rebels in Syria. You must stop supporting the ISIS immediately.
Erdogan : That will make the Americans and Europeans even more upset with me. Now they will really want my head on a platter.
Putin : Dont worry. We can get you a new head. A new head for Turkey.
Erdogan : Thank you. And thank you for hosting a State banquet in my honor tonite.
Putin : You are welcome. They cancelled the turkey dinner. We thought slicing a turkey would send the wrong signals. We are having cabbages instead.
