Ministry cripples tear and win syndicate in Negeri Sembilan

Initial investigations reveal that the suspects targeted senior citizens.

SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan branch of the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) has detained nine people in connection with a ‘tear and win’ scam offering attractive prizes and operated by a syndicate to snare unsuspecting senior citizens.
The suspects, comprising five men and four women were picked up today, at a supermarket in Ampang to facilitate investigations.
State KPDNKK chief enforcement officer, Saiful Bahri Abdul Kadir said the suspects were nabbed in an operation at the supermarket at about 3pm.
“Also seized were electrical items such as vacuum cleaners, pots, water filters and water dispensers worth about RM60,000; several receipt books; and voucher cards,” he told reporters here.
He said initial investigations revealed the suspects targeted senior citizens.
