PETALING JAYA: Efforts are currently underway with the assistance of local agencies in France to locate missing Malaysian student Nur Shakinah Naim.
In a statement, Wisma Putra confirmed it had received the official report with regards to the 19-year-old, who was reported missing from her rented apartment in France.
She is there on a Public Service Department (PSD) scholarship.
Nur Shakinah is an engineering student at the Institut Universitaire de Technologie (IUT) de Rouen in Rouen, the capital of the Normandy region in France.
Wisma Putra said Nur Shakinah had gone missing from her lodgings around noon on Sept 25.
The matter was then reported to the Malaysian embassy in France by her housemate the same night.
“Upon receiving the report, a representative of the embassy left for Rouen to better coordinate the matter and report the case to the local authorities,” said Wisma Putra, adding that the representative had left for Rouen on the same day as receiving the report.
“The Malaysian embassy in Paris remains in close contact with Rouen authorities and will provide further updates accordingly.”
According to an earlier Utusan Malaysia report, Nur Shakinah was staying at a rented apartment at Parc De La Durdent in Mont Saint Aignan, Rouen, which is about 15 minutes’ away from her place of study.
Meanwhile, local songstress Siti Nurhaliza has taken to social media to express her sadness over Nur Shakinah’s disappearance.
On both her official Instagram and Facebook accounts, Siti also shared a picture of her and Nur Shakinah when she was handing out a prize to the latter some time ago.
“Let us all pray that Shakinah, who is missing in France, will be found soon.
“This is a picture when I was presenting my husband’s gift contribution to Shakinah, which was for the Anugerah Nilam (for excellent students), organised by the Pekula Jaya school in Tikam Batu (Sungai Petani), Kedah,” Siti wrote.
Her Facebook posting garnered more than 2,000 comments while her Instagram post garnered close to 15,000 likes.
