PETALING JAYA: A rebellion is brewing in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia as unhappiness grows over Muhyiddin Yassin’s “solo act”, says a party insider.
Speaking to FMT, the source said many members were accusing the protem president of treating the party as if he owned it. He said they disliked his attitude of refusing to be in consultation with other party leaders, namely Mahathir Mohamad and his son Mukhriz, and his tendency to “sideline Mahathir’s people”.
The source said Mahathir and Mukhriz were both unhappy that Muhyiddin did not seek their views in appointing officials of the party.
“Muhyiddin wants complete control of the party,” he said. “So he has sidelined all of Mahathir’s people in the party.”
He warned that the cracks would worsen “very soon” and that Muhyiddin would come under attack from several members, including some who supported the Citizens’ Declaration.
“A huge rebellion within PPBM is set to erupt.”
The source said Muhyiddin’s leadership style was so divisive and damaging that it had repelled even Mahathir’s most loyal followers, such as Khairuddin Abu Hassan.
He added that Khairuddin would soon be joining either PKR or DAP to continue his fight against Prime Minister Najib Razak. “He is also focused on securing the release of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and is working to reunite Mahathir” with Anwar and PKR President Wan Azizah Ismail and her deputy, Azmin Ali.
He also said that Khairuddin was frustrated that Mahathir was showing Muhyiddin “too much face”.
Mahathir holds the post of Chairman in the new party.
