Rapid Rail staff's invention cuts LRT service disruptions

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) has been able to save millions of ringgit in operation costs following the invention of a Light Rail Transit (LRT) cooling system by the technical staff of its subsidiary company Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd.
The system, which involved the invention of an gadget costing less than RM5,000, is capable of cooling the Linear Induction Motor (LIM), which is often the cause for the interrupted smooth flow of the train, especially for the Kelana Jaya line.
Prasarana, in a statement today, said the system was an innovation by the staff at LRT Train (Rolling Stock) Department, namely Muhammad Firdauss Ab Jalil, Muizzuddin Mohamad, Mohd Nazri Ismail, Ahmad Mahazam Mat Zaid, Muhammad Nor Ahmad Shupi and Fahkri Noor Ramli.
It said the innovation was made early last year and took eight months to complete.
The system was now used in the daily operation of the Kelana Jaya Line LRT for the four-coach trains by Bombardier, it said.

The six staff of the LRT Train (Rolling Stock) Department were named the national-level winner in the "Team Excellence" competition at the Putrajaya National Annual Productivity & Innovation Conference and Exposition 2016 recently.
The innovation, also recognised by the Malaysian Productivity Corporation, will represent Malaysia at the International Asia Pacific QCC in Manila, in the Philippines, next year.
Rapid Rail chief executive officer Ir Zohari Sulaiman said he would continue to encourage his staff to come up with innovations aimed at increasing productivity and reducing operation costs.
