TWO-HEADED SNAKE BN: SO ARE WE ANTI-MALAY OR ANTI-CHINESE, DAP SLAMS CONTRADICTORY UMNO, MCA, GERAKAN

GEORGE TOWN – Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow accused today Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition leaders of using the same old racial strategy in every issue to raise animosity against the Pakatan Harapan state government.
He said the component parties were even at odds with each other by claiming the DAP practised racial discrimination by being anti-Malay and at the same time, anti-Chinese.
“In these eight years, we have received a lot of complaints from Umno that Pakatan always take action against the Malays while other BN component parties said we take action against the Chinese,” Chow told a news conference here.
“One component claimed we are anti-Malays while another said we are anti-Chinese,” he said.
The local government and traffic management committee chairman said the racial allegation was raised on local government issues ranging from illegal hawker stalls and illegal toilet extensions built to criticism that the state is miserly with funds to religious schools and organisations.
“The BN components also play the racial card in other issues…when we allocate funds to the vernacular schools, missionary schools and religious schools, Umno accused us of being biased and demanded to know why we didn’t allocate funds for national schools while the other components kept silent.
“We have proven that our allocations for Islam development are double that of the previous state administration’s so that silenced Umno but then, MCA and Gerakan accused us of not allocating funds to other non-Islam religious groups,” he said.
Chow dared Penang BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow to deny that the state coalition has not raised racial issues in the past eight years.
Last week, Teng had questioned the local council’s enforcement action against a cafe after the cafe owner openly criticised the Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng.
Chow has since responded by listing out the chronology of actions being taken against the cafe owner starting in January this year.
