Moderate celebration for Chinese community in Bukit Kepong

The Chinese community in Bukit Kepong is joyously celebrating the Chinese New Year but on a moderate scale after flash floods hit the area three days ago.
A resident, Boke Csee Seng said his family was just having a small celebration as they could not buy groceries and new clothes after the road linking Bukit Kepong to Segamat through Jalan Pogoh was closed.
"I thought of going to Segamat on Thursday to shop for the New Year celebration but it rained heavily until Sungai Muar overflowed... so we are just making do with whatever is available," the 54-year-old factory worker told Bernama today.

Another resident Ho Aomoi, 60, said her family just had a little celebration after offering prayers at the Cheng Ong Chinese Temple this morning.
Meanwhile, Bukit Kepong village head Ariffudin Abdul Latif said no Chinese residents were evacuated as their houses were located on higher ground.
"The 47 evacuees in the three relief centres are all from Malay families," he said, adding that nine people were at Penghulu Bukit Kepong Complex, 25 at SK Bukit Kepong and 13 at Kampung Raja Community Hall.
