Rafizi: Former THHE CEO's charges vindicate my exposes

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli said today the corruption charge against Tabung Haji Heavy Engineering's (THHE) former chief executive Nor Badli Munawir Mohamad Alias Lafti has vindicated his exposes and urges reforms on TH's subsidiaries.
The Pandan MP said he had since early last year consistently focused on cases of corruption that he claimed led to losses in Tabung Haji's subsidiaries, out of concern for its depositors, who are mostly from low-income backgrounds.
"One of the cases I had been most outspoken on was Tabung Haji's investments in Ramunia Holdings Bhd, which was later known as THHE.
"Therefore, the charge against Nor Badli today has proven that there was basis to my exposes on the corruption and mismanagements of Tabung Haji's investments, instead of mere slander, as what many Umno ministers wanted the rakyat to believe," Rafizi said in a statement.
He also urged the ministers in charge of Tabung Haji, Jamil Khir Baharom and his deputy Ashraff Wajdi Dusuki, to stop their "political play" that the pilgrimage fund has been a victim of slander by opposition politicians.
Nor Badli, 50, claimed trial in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court this morning to five counts of criminal breach of trust involving a total of RM2.57 million.
He was charged with using his position as a chief executive officer of TH Heavy Engineering Bhd to commit CBT with five cheques for RM400,000, RM570,000, RM430,000, RM600,000 and RM575,800 each between April and October 2013.
Commenting further, Rafizi questioned whether similar actions would be pursued against Tabung Haji's top management who were responsible for reviewing and approving investment decisions in "problematic" companies, including THHE.As such, he also urged Tabung Haji chairperson Abdul Azeez Rahim to reveal the individuals involved in proposing investments in companies or sectors in which the fund had no expertise, resulting in millions of ringgit in losses.

This was on top of implementing a review of Tabung Haji's business development and strategic investment plans, he said.
"Unfortunately, I believe that so long as Tabung Haji's board of directors is filled with political appointees from among Umno members, these measures will not be done.
"As a result,Tabung Haji will continue to face further risks of losses, which may be discovered one by one," Rafizi said.- Mkini
