Jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim had visited his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is being warded at the Al Islam Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, last night.
According to a Berita Harian report, the Sungai Buloh prison authorities had approved an application by the family for Anwar to be allowed to visit her.
The opposition leader's aide said Wan Azizah, 64, who was admitted yesterday, was in stable condition and undergoing treatment.
However, the reason for her admission could not be ascertained.
PKR communications officer Fahmi Fadzil told Malaysakini that Wan Azizah was transferred to the University Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya today.
Political cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque, better known as Zunar, also tweeted about the visit, detailing how Anwar made the trip under heavy security.
Berita Harian also quoted Anwar's daughter, Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah as stating that her father spent 45 minutes with his wife.
"Our lawyers sent a letter to the prison authorities to ask for permission, accompanied with a medical confirmation letter.
"Thank God, daddy (Anwar) was allowed to visit the hospital and spend time with mom and other family members last night," she added.
Meanwhile, PKR strategy director Sim Tze Tzin also shared a picture via WhatsApp, showing the wife to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, visiting Wan Azizah in the hospital.
