PETALING JAYA: Taman Tiara Titiwangsa residents objecting to two development projects in their area have alleged that a conflict of interest on City Hall’s part has become more evident than ever.
This follows a discovery that three people in authority over City Hall – Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Mansor, his deputy M Loga Bala and Kuala Lumpur mayor Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz – are also allegedly directors of Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP), which owns the land for the two high-density projects.
The residents have demanded that City Hall immediately call a halt to the two developments. Recently, they wrote a letter of demand to the mayor, telling him to respond by yesterday. Their lawyer, L S Leonard, told FMT that he had missed the deadline and a report against him was lodged yesterday with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
Leonard said his clients had at first thought that the City Hall bosses were just YWP trustees, “which was worrying enough”.
“But the conflict of interest is even more apparent now that it is learnt these individuals are actually directors of YWP,” he said.
“A director has to act in the best interests of his company and make sure it benefits in every way. His obligation to the company or corporate governance function with it is even more prevailing compared to that of a mere trustee.”
Amin Nordin, Tengku Adnan and Bala are listed as trustees on the YWP website.
But Leonard said he had found out through the Companies Commission of Malaysia that the three were actually directors of the company.
Leonard called into question the objectives of YWP as listed on its website.
“If you look at their website, their objective is to do charity work, help the poor and so on,” he said.
“But if you look at the proposed development in Taman Tiara Titiwangsa, where YWP is the land owner, it’s a commercial development as opposed to charity work.
“The developer has proposed to build three blocks, and only one block is proposed for affordable housing.” -FMT
