POWER STRUGGLE IN PAS BREAKS OUT: ‘HADI THROWS THEM OUT, TUAN IBRAHIM BRINGS THEM BACK’ – PAS NO.2 REHIRES LEADERS FIRED BY HADI

POLITICAL observers believe a power struggle may be looming for Islamist party PAS after deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man reappointed several veteran party leaders recently stripped of their portfolios back to key positions, in the absence of party president Abdul Hadi Awang.
PAS veteran Mustafa Ali was one of the key figures, brought back to head a new PAS advisory board.
Long-time elections director Mustafa was replaced by Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, the former political secretary of Hadi Awang, during a restructuring in early May.
In a WhatsApp reply to The Malaysian Insight, Tuan Ibrahim confirmed Mustafa’s appointment.
“Yes, he is the chairman,” he said.
The 72-year-old Mustafa told The Malaysian Insight that he had been informed about the appointment but had not received any formal letter.
“I understand that my appointment was made during the second meeting chaired by Tuan Ibrahim,” he said.
Other PAS veteran politicians like Dr Sanusi Daeng Mariok (ex-vice president), Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman (ex-treasurer of PAS headquarters) and Subky Latif (a PAS veteran writer) have also been roped in by Tuan Ibrahim.

Hadi, who is on extended vacation after undergoing heart surgery at the National Heart Institute on May 16, had ordered all four men to be stripped of their positions.
PAS political analyst Mohamad Hisomuddin Bakar said that Tuan Ibrahim’s move to bring back the four veteran politicians was seen as an effort to stabilise the party, and bringing in people Tuan Ibrahim could trust and work with.
“Hadi throws them out, but Tuan Ibrahim is bringing them back,” said Hisomuddin, who is also the executive chairman of the Ilham Centre Research Facility.
PAS has not released any official statement about Mustafa and the other three members’ appointments, which some say could also signal the possibility of a brewing conflict between Hadi Awang and Tuan Ibrahim.
