Perhaps MACC should first apologise for Teoh’s death

YOURSAY | ‘There was no contrite nor remorse shown by them over his death.’
Gerard Lourdesamy: Why is MACC barking at Penang CM Lim Guan Eng when in reality it has become the government's pet poodle?
Why not bark at the PM and the attorney-general (AG) for preventing the MACC from investigating independently, impartially and objectively the serious allegations regarding the irregularities and improprieties in 1MDB and SRC International despite the overwhelming evidence obtained by the US Department of Justice (DOJ), the Swiss AG and the Singapore regulatory authorities?
Like most other enforcement and regulatory authorities in this country, the MACC has compromised on its integrity for the sake of political expediency and as a result it now has zero credibility among the public.
Sub judice and contempt are matters for the court to decide if there is an application by the AG to cite Guan Eng.
But the MACC should have issued similar threats when the PM and virtually every other Umno minister was making unnecessary comments and conclusions while the Special Task Force was still investigating 1MDB and SRC.
Vijay47: If this threat to Guan Eng is intended to restore your name and reputation, MACC, you have a strange way of seeking that healing.
If MACC suffers poor name and reputation, if it has earned loathing and contempt from the public, it is entirely of your own making.
You can catch all the mackerel or even tuna, but as long as you let that shark freely swim the seven seas, your name will remain buried in the mud.
Your selective action and your shifting of the goal posts do not contribute to good name and reputation.
Fair and Square: I would not call it an illegal arrest if the arrest was done following due process. But based on press reports, there is the question of good faith in the light of the new evidence.
Drngsc: Go ahead, MACC. If you want Guan Eng arrested, go ahead. You have no case against Penang exco Phee Boon Poh. You simply arrested him just for show. Guan Eng is correct. It was all political intimidation.
Go ahead, arrest Guan Eng. What are you waiting for?
FellowMalaysian: Did MACC ever apologise for the death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock that happened at its office grounds?
There was no contrite nor remorse shown by them. Yet, the head of department was later promoted.
Now they asked Guan Eng to apologise over his words in describing MACC's action as illegal. There's just no fairness in them where the opposition is involved.
MinahBulat: Phee was detained and MACC got a remand order to detain him and three others. However, the remand order was set aside. Can MACC guess why it was set aside? The arrest detention and remand, or either one was illegal.
Further MACC, former Umno vice-president Isa Samad was not handcuffed, but Phee was handcuffed. Why?
I have no doubts Guan Eng have the best team to advise him, but if a man like Guan Eng can stand up for a grandmother and her grandchild who was allegedly raped by a minister, who is MACC to threaten Guan Eng?
Ipohcrite: I think Guan Eng should call MACC's dare. After all, if it were slander that MACC was genuinely concerned about, then a day in court could give both parties a chance to air their grievances.
MACC may win this court battle, but the war is already hopelessly lost. And guess who's the victor?
Anonymous_1371488694: I am not a lawyer so I may be wrong, but if MACC says Guan Eng's comment is sub judice and contempt, isn't demanding a retraction the same?
Would it not be up to the courts to determine if it’s sub judicial?
6th Generation Immigrant: In former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's ‘Malay Dilemma’, where he posited that the non-confrontational nature of the Malays has kept them subjugated in their own land by the other races in collusion with the British and that affirmative action is required to correct Chinese dominance in the Malaysian economy are indeed true and fair.
In fact, most Malaysians, subscribe to these findings. However, the corrective implementations have always been the point of contention, even now. Mahathir hadn't foreseen that it is impossible to undertake social engineering (within his lifetime) on the Malays.
All his ‘Ketuanan Melayu’ efforts, whether subtle or direct, brought out different finite values and qualities each time among the Malays, the end results which Mahathir is himself surprised, so he now disagrees with the ‘ketuanan’ efforts.
Mahathir still has some time left to undertake changes and amendments in his ‘Malay Dilemma’ to perfection, a better psyche on how to help Malays, if given a second opportunity.
Gaji Buta: I feel the essence of the word 'ketuanan' is lost in translation when referred to as 'supremacy'. Supremacy to me, is what the Nazi's thought they were, i.e, better in every way compared to other races, genetically, intellectually and physically.
I think we can rule this out for our case here. 'Ketuanan' to me, as how Umno has dreamt up, is more on being the boss and ruling over others. Maybe, there is a more appropriate adjective that can be used to describe this trait?
Existential Turd: Umno's mantra is: you give, I take; that's how we "share". That exactly fits the concept of "sharing", especially those supporting Umno, and now Bersatu.
I don't see much sharing of anything, only grabbing and grabbing; whether its political offices, economic pies, religious zombies or even dead bodies.
Dr Suresh Kumar: BTN (Biro Tatanegara) thrived under Mahathir. Although it was established in 1974 under the Youth ministry, it was renamed and transferred in 1981. Who was the PM in 1981, by the way?
Listen to this song, synonymous with BTN and also played during Umno's AGMs. Did not I say this wily old fox has not repented and never will. Only the blind and the delusional trust this forked tongue old man.
Anonymous 1890491455255851: It is clear in countries whose population is multiracial, the country gains a lot - be it socially or economically.
I see what's happening in the US and realise that despite how our elected officials choose to use race and religion and see this as a means to scare the majority into electing the BN government again and again, Malaysians generally get on pretty well.

It's the government that is making race a big issue. It is time for the government to start being responsible and celebrate our multiracialness and quit racial politics. - Mkini
