PEKAN: Prime Minister Najib Razak says Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) still have time to fine-tune and perfect their machinery before the next general election (GE14).
Najib, who is also Umno president, said the feedback gathered over the past two months from the Umno division meetings nationwide, revealed the party machinery’s level of preparedness was good but there was still room for improvement to ensure BN would win big and maintain its mandate.
“We are perfectionists. We will not be fully satisfied until everything is perfect,” he said.
Najib, who is also Pekan MP, said this when opening the Pekan Umno delegates meeting at Dewan Konvensyen Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah here yesterday. It was the party’s final division meeting prior to the Umno general assembly later this year.
Also present were Pahang Umno liaison chief and Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob, as well as Pekan Umno division chief Abu Bakar Harun.
Najib also noted that all 192 division meetings nationwide had run smoothly without any untoward incidents occurring.
“I can confirm from Zahid Hamidi (Deputy Prime Minister), who attended the meetings, that Umno members from Perlis to Sabah are in high spirits. This is a reflection on how well-organised and disciplined the party is compared with the opposition,” Najib said.
“I have also not received any reports of flying chairs or lighted flares and so on. In short, we did not have instances of indiscipline in any of the division meetings.”
Meanwhile, Najib urged Umno members throughout the country to internalise the party’s struggle and remain united and loyal to their leaders so the party could remain the ruling government. -FMT
