IPOH: Police are investigating the case of a fire that razed a gazebo at St Michael’s Church here on Friday.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said two officers were dispatched from the Pekan Baru police station after a call about the incident was received.

“When we arrived we were informed by the Fire and Rescue Department that the fire had been reduced to embers by the time firemen arrived,” he said on Sunday.

ACP Sum said police are investigating what caused the gazebo — a temporary structure made of wood and palm leaves — to catch fire.

“We have already recorded the statements of the caller and a few witnesses, including a priest from the church,” he said, adding that police are waiting for a full report from the Fire and Rescue Department.

“We have yet to determine what time the fire occurred, or whether there are any elements of foul play,” he said.
