KUALA LUMPUR: The Rawang Bypass will be opened to traffic beginning 6am tomorrow and is expected to benefit about 30,000 motorists daily.
Works Minister Fadillah Yusof said the 9km new stretch would reduce traffic congestion by 50% and shorten travel time from Serendah to Selayang, specifically during peak hours.
“Before this, motorists could take up to two hours during peak hours, but now they just need 30 minutes for the same destination,” he said when launching the opening of the Rawang Bypass, here, today.
Fadillah said the construction of the Rawang Bypass, costing RM628 million, began on July 16, 2005 and was completed on Nov 21, this year.
“The bypass construction through the Selangor Heritage Park, which involves a forest area, had been reduced from 65 hectares to 24 hectares.
“This is to ensure that the forest reserve will be preserved, especially the wildlife species that are becoming extinct,” he said. -FMT
