Tuan Ibrahim reminds rep who defected to Bersatu of religious oath

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man reminded Anak Bukit assemblyperson Amiruddin Hamzah, who defected to Bersatu today, of his religious oath (baiah).
"Personally, I was shocked by his actions because he was not one of those who was problematic to the party (PAS) and is easy to talk to.
"PAS respects his decision but he has a few obligations under the baiah he had made," he told Malaysiakini when contacted.
In the 13th general election, PAS elected representatives were made to take a religious oath that they would have to divorce their spouse if they left PAS.
Amiruddin, in a press conference, today formally announced his entry to Bersatu.
He was accompanied by Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir and the Kedah Bersatu leadership.
Amiruddin had been the assemblyperson for Anak Bukit since 2002 after winning the seat in a by-election following the passing of the then PAS president Fadzil Noor.
Meanwhile, Kedah PAS deputy commissioner Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had a different reaction, stating that he was not at all surprised at Amiruddin's defection.
"It is not news to PAS. He has not been with us for a long time and had openly organised events for Pakatan Harapan.
"We pray that he can get over the baiah he made during the elections in the afterlife," he said," he said.
PAS circles, particularly in Kedah, had previously accused him of being a sympathiser of its splinter party Amanah.
Amiruddin was present at Amanah's annual general assembly in Kedah last month. -Mkini
