Bad weather dashes beauty pageant’s bid for catwalk record

Miss Tourism International 2017 World Final contestants were unable to create a new Malaysian record for a fashion runway performed at the highest altitude at the Langkawi Skybridge due to unfavourable weather.
Miss-Tourism-International-2017-World-FinalLANGKAWI: An attempt to create a new Malaysian record for a fashion runway performed at the highest altitude at the Langkawi Skybridge today was cancelled due to unfavourable weather.
The much-awaited attempt by the 50 contestants of the Miss Tourism International 2017 World Final was dropped after officials of Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd, the operator of the mountaintop attraction, reported strong winds in the area.
Bernama learnt that strong winds forced the operator to temporarily cease operation of the Langkawi Skycab, a cable car system which linked the nearly 700-metre high Langkawi Skybridge with the Oriental Village at the foot of Mount Machinchang.
Following the cancellation, the contestants were brought to experience the various attractions at the Oriental Village, including the Langkawi 3D Museum and the Langkawi Skytrex.
The Langkawi Skybridge tour came on the second day of the beauties’ tour of the resort island after a packed schedule upon arrival from Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The tour here saw them visiting the Air Hangat Village to experience the salt water hot spring there as well as displaying skills in making handicrafts at the Langkawi Craft Complex.
They were also brought to a sunset dinner cruise in the evening before commencing their second-day programme participating in a yoga session and trying out jetskis at the Paradise 101, a man-made beach here.
A photo session would be held at the Eagle’s Square here for them this afternoon before the contestants proceeded for a gala dinner and talent show at the Langkawi International Convention Centre tonight.
The dinner would also see the contestant adjudged as the best participant throughout the island tour to be crowned as the Langkawi Tourism Ambassadress 2017.

The Langkawi trip for the contestants, hosted by Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), was part of their 18-day activities for the beauty contest where the coronation night will be held in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 6. -FMT
