Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, wife of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has been dropped as the patron for Wheelchair Tennis Malaysia (WTM) due to a “committee reshuffle.”
Siti Hasmah’s aide Rozlina Jamaluddin confirmed to Malaysiakini that the WTM had personally delivered a letter, dated Dec 28, to her office on Jan 22.
The letter stated that the WTM, in an executive council meeting, had passed a resolution in December to reshuffle the committee to improve the association, Rozlina said.
“Siti Hasmah was alright about the decision. She said ‘It’s okay’ when she read the letter,” she added.

Her daughter Marina Mahathir (right in photo) had tweeted earlier today that the WTM had passed a resolution asking Siti Hasmah to step down as patron.
“Thanks for your support for mum. Just to highlight more silliness: the WTM actually passed a resolution to ask mum to step down as patron.
“That is how petty it is getting,” her tweet read.
Malaysiakini has also attempted to contact WTM to get their response on this matter and is currently awaiting their reply.
This comes after Siti Hasmah had her statement taken by the police on Friday for her participation in the “Women against Toxic Politics” march in September last year.
