Azmin returns to work with a neck brace

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has officially returned to work after suffering from an annular tear of his spinal disk.

Selangor Menteri Besar's office strategic communications director Yin Shao Loong confirmed that Azmin had chaired a meeting in relation to the state’s finances at the Selangor State Secretariat building this morning.

However, photographs sent by Yin show Azmin chairing the meeting wearing a neck brace.

Azmin's office had revealed that he had sustained the injury at his home last week.

"He was so excited with the arrival of his first grandchild earlier this week, that he cleaned and cleared his house by himself, which included lifting very heavy furniture. Thus the injury," Yin said in a statement.

An annular tear is a tear within the intervertebral discs, which serve as shock absorbers for the spine, and are sandwiched between the bones that make up the vertebral column.

Malaysiakini first learned that the PKR deputy president had a back problem on Tuesday, when he missed an event in Cyberjaya.
