DAP proposes Orang Asli to contest Galas seat in Kelantan

Party veteran Lim Kit Siang says DAP probably also has the youngest candidate this election with Kerk Chee Yee, 25, nominated to contest in Ayer Keroh.
Nasir Dollah is one of 148 candidates to be fielded by DAP in GE14.
PETALING JAYA: DAP has created another first by nominating an Orang Asli candidate, Nasir Dollah, for the state seat of Galas in Kelantan, says party veteran Lim Kit Siang.
This followed the party’s announcement yesterday that it would be fielding a record 10 Malays in the coming polls.
Galas is located in the Gua Musang parliamentary constituency. In the 2013 polls, Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Abdul Aziz Yusoff defeated Abdullah Hussein of PAS by a 1,301-vote majority.
About 65% of the voters there are Malay, 18% Chinese and 17% Orang Asli.
In a blog post, Lim added that DAP probably had the youngest candidate among all political parties with the nomination of Kerk Chee Yee, 25, who will be contesting the Ayer Keroh state seat in Melaka.
Chee Yee is the son of the late Kerk Kim Hock, a former DAP secretary-general.
DAP is fielding 148 candidates in 47 parliament and 105 state seats.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, national vice-chairman Chow Kon Yeow, deputy secretary-general Nga Kor Ming and national organising secretary Anthony Loke are contesting both parliamentary and state seats.
The party’s candidates comprise 109 Chinese, 22 Indians, 10 Malays, three Kadazan/Dusun/Murut, three Iban and one Orang Asli.
Lim said DAP has nine candidates who are aged 30 and below.
Apart from Chee Yee, the other eight are Jamaliah Jamaluddin (Bandar Utama), Michelle Ng (Subang Jaya) Lim Yi Wei (Kampung Tunku), Choy Tsi Jen (Canning), Teoh Yee Chern (Astaka), Young Syefura Othman (Ketari), Teh Swee Leong (Kota Darul Aman) and Phoong Jin Zhe (Luyang).
The party is also fielding 27 women candidates, eight for parliamentary and 19 for state seats. -FMT
