LIOW REALLY SHOWS HIS LACK OF STANDARD: YEE KEW APOLOGIZES, WONG TACK APOLOGIZES – BUT MCA CHIEF CONTINUES WITH THE ‘LAU/LIOW’ BULLSHIT

PETALING JAYA: PKR’s Wangsa Maju candidate Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew has apologised for forgetting to bring her MyKad to the nomination centre at SMK Wangsa Melawati yesterday (April 28).

“I wish to apologise to all my friends and supporters that the incident that took place at the nomination centre had caused so much anxiety to them.

“The Identity Card (IC) is something that I carry with me all the time and I had taken for granted that it was with me when I went to the nomination centre in the morning,” she said in a Facebook posting issued Saturday (April 28).

Dr Tan admitted that she was careless in checking if her IC was in her possession, as she claimed that she had left her IC in the scanner after making a copy of her IC.

According to Dr Tan, the regulation 7 (1) (a) of the Election (Conduct of Elections) stipulates that objection to nomination papers can only be on the grounds that the particulars of the candidate are insufficient to identify the candidate.

“Because the IC is the easiest way to identify the Identity of a person, therefore , the returning officer will always ask for the IC from the candidate.”

“In my case, the returning officer accepted my nomination papers after I showed him the photocopy of my IC and he used it to confirm my identity online with the National Registration Department (NRD).”

Since the original IC is not a requirement for the submission of nomination papers, Dr Tan said the question of submitting the IC late does not arise.

She thanked the returning officer (RO) for “acting justly according to the law.

“I know there are some candidates who lost their opportunity to contest because the returning officer either failed to understand the law or acted unfairly.”

Dr Tan remained unfazed over the immense public criticism over her blunder on nomination day.

“There is of course no lack of mean criticism and personal attacks. I am not bothered by them.”

Dr Tan courted public criticism for leaving her MyKad inside a photocopy machine in Subang Jaya, which led to an Election Commission officer to deny her entry into the nomination centre.

However Dr Tan was accepted as a candidate for the Wangsa Maju Parliamentary seat by the EC’s Returning Officer, although her Mykad was produced after the nomination period which ended at 10am.

Dr Tan will be facing a three cornered fight against MCA’s Datuk Seri Yew Teong Look and PAS’ Razali Tumiran in the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat.

In the last general election, Dr Yee Kew contested the Tanjung Malim parliamentary seat but lost by 4,328 votes to Barisan’s Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan.

Liow accepts Wong Tack apology but says damage has been done

BENTONG: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai acknowledged the apology from his opponent Wong Tack of DAP, but said that damage has been done.

Liow was referring to the live Facebook video posted on Wong’s page, which implied that Liow did not bring his identification card when filing his nomination paper to contest the Bentong parliamentary seat on Saturday morning.

“It is their usual tactic to defame me,” said Liow.

Liow was speaking to reporters at Kampung Baru Perting here after opening a street basketball event.

 The Pakatan Harapan candidates cried foul over Lau’s candidacy, saying that the address on his IC was not in Pahang – a requirement to stand in a state seat.

The streaming was handled by Wong’s supporter from Pakatan Harapan candidates’ tent within the nomination centre compound.

Voices could be heard shouting “Liow Tiong Lai, tunjuk IC (show your IC)”, followed by “penipu (cheater)”.

The video led some people to jump to conclusion that Liow did not bring his IC when filing his nomination paper.

Liow’s press secretary Lim Chau Leng lodged a police report over the matter on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters, Liow said he leaves it to police to investigate the matter.L

BENTONG: DAP’s Wong Tack has apologised to MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai for causing a misunderstanding about Liow’s identification card via the former’s live Facebook video.

“The first part of the video was indeed inaccurate, sorry.

“But the subsequent videos were clearly referring to Datuk Lau Hoi Keong,” he said at Bentong market here.

Wong was referring to a video that was streamed live on his Facebook page on nomination day, which captured the drama at the nomination centre here over the identification card of Lau, a Gerakan candidate for the Ketari state seat.

The streaming was handled by Wong supporters from Pakatan Harapan candidates’ tent within the nomination centre compound.

Voices could be heard shouting “Liow Tiong Lai, tunjuk IC (show your IC)”, followed by “penipu (cheater).

The video led some people to jump to conclusion that Liow did not bring his IC when filing his nomination paper.

Wong said his comrades had perhaps caught the wrong name when they saw him challenging Lau, who was standing alongside Barisan Nasional candidates, from afar.

Wong, who is engaged in a three-corner fight with Liow and PAS Supporters Club chairman N. Balasubramaniam in the Bentong parliamentary seat, said it was not his intention to create this “mistaken news”.

Meanwhile, Lau’s challenger, DAP’s Young Syefura Othman, lodged a police report over the address on his IC on Saturday afternoon.

Lau explained that he had changed his address to Ketari. He said the new address is recorded in the chip of his MyKad, but he did not get the physical card changed.

However, the DAP candidates claimed that the physical copies of the necessary documents must adhere to the rules set by the Election Commission.
