PETALING JAYA — At their debut ceramah, three Pakatan Harapan female candidates set the stage alight with fiery speeches criticising Barisan Nasional and promising reforms.
Jamaliah Jamaluddin, the DAP’s Bandar Utama state seat candidate, charmed the public with her fluent command of Mandarin as she rained criticism on BN and its policies.
She targeted caretaker Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin over his recent promise via BN’s Youth Manifesto, in which he pledged that his party would create more jobs for youths.
“I have a question for you dear, Khairy Jamaluddin. Barisan Nasional has ruled for 60 years. Why in that 60 years, Barisan Nasional was not able to give good work opportunities for youngsters?
“Why did we have to wait until you win in the election this time, to provide our children with better education, or better job opportunities?’ Jamaliah said to applause and cheers from the over 2,000 people.
Jamaliah, a former councillor with Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), also spoke about increased living cost, labelling it a critical problem, and pointed to the several programmes the Selangor government has created to address it.
As she was delivering her speech, Maria Chin Abdullah, the candidate for Petaling Jaya arrived to cheers.
She criticised the government for inefficiently managing public funds.
Kampung Tunku hopeful Lim Yi Wei criticised BN over the management of the economy.
She also took a swipe at her MCA rival Tan Gim Tuan, whose election campaign is centered on him being a “local boy” who is able to feel the pulse of the residents in the area better.
Also present in the event were Bukit Gasing incumbent R. Rajiv, Segambut candidate Hannah Yeoh, Seputeh incumbent Teresa Kok, and Damansara candidate Tony Pua.
A donation drive was also launched at the ceramah, to help the Opposition coalition carry out its election campaigns, and in under three hours, Pakatan Harapan collected RM47,175, from the public.
Over 2,000 people attended the ceramah held at SS2 here.
