Palace: New Selangor MB to be sworn in on June 19

The new Selangor menteri besar will be sworn in on June 19, according to a statement by the Selangor palace.
Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's private secretary Mohamad Munir Bani said the state ruler had given his consent for the swearing-in ceremony to take place after Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
The ceremony is set to take place at Balairung Seni at the Istana Shah Alam in Klang.
"In connection to the swearing-in ceremony (of the new MB), Azmin Ali will be relinquishing his post as Selangor menteri besar, effective from the same date, June 19," the statement read.
No names were given as to who would take over the position as head of the state government from Azmin.
Azmin, who is Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyperson, was initially sworn in as menteri besar for a second term on May 11.
He was later accorded a cabinet position by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as economic affairs minister.
As such Azmin, who is also Gombak parliamentarian, elected to accept the federal portfolio and a new menteri besar would be appointed.
He was to remain as menteri besar in the interim, however, to ensure a smooth transition of power.  -Mkini
