World Cup 2018 to be aired live for free on RTM1

The FIFA World Cup 2018 will be aired live for free on RTM1.
This was announced by Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo today.
“We will air the World Cup over RTM1 for free this year,” said Gobind during the press conference held after the cabinet meeting today.
He later said that the government will try to find ways to absorb the costs of airing the international football competition live on RTM1 for free.
The costs will be explained in more detail by the Finance Ministry in their press conference briefing tomorrow.
“There is a cost involved but as far as we are concerned we will try to find ways to absorb the costs...this is something that is a one-off, once in four years," Gobind said.
“As for costs, we are going to deal with that.
“I think these are matters that will be discussed by the Finance Ministry tomorrow,” he explained to reporters later.
He said there have been many requests for this from the public which he took to the cabinet for its approval.
“The cabinet has made its decision (to approve it),” he said.
This year’s World Cup, which will be held in Russia, starts on June 14 and will end on July 15.
The World Cup is usually aired in Malaysia via Astro’s paid cable service. - Mkini
