Anybody with money can invest in Langkawi, says Dr M on Ting's project

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said anyone is welcomed to invest in the island of Langkawi.
He was responding to developer Ting Pek Khiing's announcement yesterday on his Langkawi New City project, which is expected to cost around RM30 billion.
“Anybody can invest in Langkawi. If they have the money to invest. It is up to the state government to approve or not.
“This is a project in the state of Kedah so it will be dealt with by the state of Kedah,” he told a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.
Mahathir is the MP for Langkawi while his son, Mukhriz, is the menteri besar of Kedah.
When asked about the Langkawi project, Mukhriz said he would release an official statement on the matter later today.
Ting had been keeping a low profile for the last 16 years before announcing the multi-billion ringgit development project in Langkawi.
The Sarawak-born businessperson said the project would be undertaken by his group of companies and that Mahathir would launch it.
He added the project would involve the construction of about 30,000 high-end condominium units, commercial centres, berthing facilities for ocean liners and yachts and other facilities. - Mkini
