UMNO (United Malays National Organisation) is seriously in deep shit. In fact, the Malay nationalist party could be de-registered. It may perish and never to be seen again. First, the brilliant acting UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi went crawling to Prime Minister Mahathir begging for forgiveness for insulting his ancestor, calling him the son of Iskandar Kutty just before the election.
Mr. Zahid also naively offered UMNO’s undivided support to the new government. Second, this Java immigrant was dumb enough to terminate the funding to all the 191 UMNO divisions and wings, asking the chiefs to find their own money instead. It was as good as asking them to jump into the nearest lake. It didn’t cross Zahid’s mind that after being spoon-fed for decades, they can’t function without funding.
Third, Zahid, the ex-Deputy Prime Minister well known for his lack of leadership, told all and sundry that Pakatan Harapan coalition government was “shaky”. To win support for the coming UMNO presidency, the clueless Zahid claims that he can take back the federal government, and it could be as soon as before the next 15th general election (in 2023).
He bragged about his close relationship with practically everyone in Pakatan Harapan coalition, including PKR de-factor leader Anwar Ibrahim, leaders from Sabah and Sarawak and even DAP – suggesting there could be a coup. And it was Zahid himself who, perhaps afraid of losing face, declared that he actually allowed the decision by 4 Sarawak parties to quit and formed their own coalition.
Zahid Hamidi, who spoke very little English, might sound like an arrogant gangster with very little wisdom. But the behaviour of Anwar Ibrahim lately lends credence that there’s a remote possibility the Pakatan Harapan coalition government could collapse due to internal betrayal. There were rumours that the 4 Sarawak parties quit Barisan Nasional coalition because they could not afford to lose the 2021 state election.
The 93-year-old Mahathir Mohamad who came back from retirement knows more than anyone else that the biggest mistake in politics is underestimatingyour opponents. While he isn’t concerned about empty vessel Zahid Hamidi, his old rival Tengku Razaleigh could rally the support of UMNO grassroots and unite the demoralized party, and make Mahathir runs for his money.
However, Mahathir also knew that UMNO can emerge stronger only if the party has a strong financial cash-flow. Without free flow of money, UMNO is as good as dead. So, skinning UMNO is as easy as cutting money flowing into the party, which is still licking its wound from its stunning defeat. Those UMNO parasites are like walking zombies who need to be fed with fresh and juicy cash every day.
But how do you cut the lifeline of UMNO legally and within the scope of rule of law, not rule of jungle? Coincidently, some genius within UMNO shouted hysterically, claiming that the RM116 million cash confiscated in luxury condominiums – Pavilion Residences – related to Najib Razak and his family members belonged to UMNO, and even demanded the money to be returned to the party.
You also have the half-past-six warlords such as UMNO supreme council member Bung Moktar Radin who proudly displayed his idiocy – announcing that he firmly believes that the huge amount of cash (RM116 million) confiscated by the police from Pavilion Residences in Kuala Lumpur on May 18 was indeed belongs to UMNO, as claimed by his ex-boss Najib Razak.
Mahathir happily gobbled the easy meat. The raid at Najib’s house and his children’s luxury condominiums were conducted based on the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2001. In this context, money laundering means the act of a person who engages – directly or indirectly – in a transaction (transactions) that involves proceeds of any unlawful activity.
In other words, since Najib was the president of UMNO, he could have had used the party as vehicle to launder dirty money. That’s why Mr. Zahid panics and babbling that UMNO’s money is legitimate and not linked to any money-laundering activities. Once the biggest bully, Zahid now tastes his own medicine – accusing the new government of discrimination and bullying.
As the Malaysian Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Amar Singh said, the word “UMNO” was not printed on the seized RM116 million. So how does UMNO plan to prove those cash belongs to them? Realising their stupidity in claiming the booty, not a single brave soul from UMNO has come forward to claim the money seized from the properties linked to Najib.
Unfortunately, it’s too late to distant itself now. The damage has been done. And since those smart guys from UMNO had claimed the RM116 million was theirs, the ball was passed to MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) who gladly freezes bank accounts belonging to UMNO as part of investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
MACC has (easily) justified the freezing of UMNO accounts, saying – “Yes, it is true; the account was frozen, as part of our probe into the 1MDB case. This was because many of the UMNO top brass had said the money was actually meant or belonged to UMNO. So what is wrong when investigators freeze the accounts as part of investigations?”
Tengku Razaleigh, Khairy Jamaluddin and Zahid Hamidi, all gunning for the UMNO presidency, have started whining, crying and bitching till foaming at the mouth promising the UMNO delegates that they would get the money unfrozen if they get elected as UMNO president. Well, good luck with that. UMNO’s cash is as good as gone!!
Not only Mahathir wants to see UMNO suffocates without money, he also may want to investigate each and every one of UMNO warlords for potentially receiving money related to 1MDB scandal. But it would take a very long time, would it not? Precisely!! The UMNO accounts will be frozen for as long as the authorities need to complete their investigation. And it could take months, if not years.
At his advanced age, you can’t help but admire the old fox Mahathir Mohamad. Depleting UMNO of its much needed mojo does not only cripple the party which, interestingly was actually formed by Mahathir himself (as UMNO Baru) in 1988, it also prevents the potential collapse of the new government due to internal revolt or betrayal or MPs being bought over.
An alliance of PKR (49 seats), UMNO (53 seats), PAS (18 seats) and Sarawak GPS coalition (19 seats) could actually see the downfall of the newly crowned Pakatan Harapan coalition government, even if all the 22 non-Malay MPs in PKR refuse to join the coup to overthrow Mahathir government. The alliance will have 117 seats, enough to form a simple majority government.
Heck, Mahathir may even move in to investigate PAS now that the Islamic party has no intention to challenge the damaging audio clip exposing Nik Abduh admits the party of receiving money from UMNO. Because the trial, launched by PAS President Hadi Awang against Sarawak Report, will not start until 1 April, 2019 in London, Mahathir has ample time to investigate if PAS’ RM90 million dirty money came from 1MDB.
In fact, all the component parties of Barisan Nasional coalition old government may be investigated for receiving money – directly or indirectly – from 1MDB. It’s up to your imagination how far the money from 1MDB has changed hands. Will Mahathir finish UMNO once and for all by de-registering the institution which has been in existence for 61 years since independence in 1957?
After all, UMNO is an illegal organization anyway. Does it matter if UMNO – without its cash – is allowed to exist just for sentimental value? Mahathir will be the prime minister for at least 2 years, more than enough to see UMNO dies a bankrupt party if its accounts are kept frozen. Thanks to UMNO’s big mouth, Mahathir has found his ultimate weapon to slowly slaughter his foolish enemies.
