PM backs Council of Eminent Persons on call for judges to quit

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has backed the Council of Eminent Persons' call on two judges to resign.

"If you can't talk to them and if you cannot suggest to them, then the whole eminent group should be disbanded," he told a press conference in Tokyo today.

Responding to a question, Mahathir also disagreed that the council was overstepping its jurisdiction by making such calls.

On Sunday, former Federal Court judge Gopal Sri Ram claimedthat the council's chairperson Daim Zainuddin demanded the resignations of Chief Justice Md Raus Sharif and Court of Appeal president Justice Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin.
