Report: KJ gunning for Umno vice-presidency

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has confirmed that he will run for the party's vice presidency.
The Rembau MP said this in an interview with South China Morning Post (SCMP) today.
According to a tweet by SCMP Asia correspondent Bhavan Jaipragash, Khairy has, however, ruled out running for presidency or deputy presidency of the party.
Khairy has retweeted Jaipragash's post.
Meanwhile, Umno Youth deputy chief, Senator Khairul Azwan Harun, in a statement, said that he will be contesting for the Youth chief position, replacing Khairy, in the upcoming party election.
"I'm confident that the opportunity given to me as a senator and my experience as Umno deputy youth chief as well as with support from the grassroots, we will bring about change.
"We will also build up the youths as a check and balance to the Pakatan Harapan government and look for more 'fresh and bold' youth leaders who will champion the people's aspirations," he said.
Khairy had previously objected to the idea of having Umno's top two positions unopposed at party elections.
Following Umno's removal as the ruling party in the May 9 general election, Khairy admitted that it had been oblivious to the grassroots sentiment adding that to make a comeback, the party should mull opening its membership to all races. -Mkini
