Sacked for protesting under BN, ex-Bank Negara worker wants job back

Former Bank Negara employee Y Kohila today submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Department and Human Resources Ministry in the hope of getting her job back.
Kohila, who was sacked for participating in the May Day rally in 2016, hopes that the new government would be more tolerant of citizens' rights to protest and can undo her sacking for simply exercising her rights.
Kohila, who was accompanied by PSM secretary-general A Sivarajan and other party leaders, also met with Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran about the matter.
"Kula said he will scrutinise this matter and see what can be done," she told Malaysiakini when contacted.
The meeting took place for around 30 minutes.
Kohila is also seeking compensation for what she claimed was an unlawful sacking.
Kohila had been a Bank Negara employee for 12 years and had served as a manager at the central bank's Museum and Art Gallery Department.
She had worn an anti-GST T-shirt while attending the May Day protest in 2016.
BN was defeated by Pakatan Harapan in the May 9 general election and has moved to abolish the tax. - Mkini
