MIC MP: LTTE is not a terrorist group

PARLIAMENT | BN Cameron Highlands parliamentarian C Sivarraajh has indirectly defended Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy on the latter's alleged link to the controversial Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Sivarraajh said the LTTE has never been classified as a terrorist group.
"I wish to remind the groups who label LTTE as terrorist group. LTTE was never a terrorist group but a group of freedom fighters who fought for the liberation of oppressed Tamils in Sri Lanka for many years," he said when debating the royal decree at the Dewan Rakyat today.
He likened LTTE with other groups which fight to liberate the people in many countries.
The MIC Youth chief, however did not name Ramasamy in his debate.
Ramasamy was targeted by Muslim groups in the wake of the controversy over the government’s handling of preacher Zakir Naik who is wanted by the Indian government over allegations of terrorism.

Ramasamy has denied any links with the Tamil Tigers after a picture of him taking part in a meeting involving the LTTE Constitutional Affairs Committee went viral in social media.
Last week, two rallies took in Penang: one in support of Ramasamy, another to condemn him for his alleged links with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) movement.

Sivarraajh reminded the people to understand the sentiment of other ethnic groups.
"I urged all quarters not to analyse the history as they wish (because this will) disappoint and provoke others in the country," he said. - Mkini
