Cops quiz Umno, MIC division chiefs over 1MDB funds

Police have summoned dozens of Umno and MIC division leaders over funds channelled to them, which is suspected of originating from 1MDB.
According to a source, about 10 of them were called to the police's anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing prevention (Amla) unit in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
He said investigations continued this morning with more being questioned.
"So far, the number of those investigated have exceeded 30 and more are expected to be questioned as letters from the unit (ordering them to come for questioning) have been sent to them,” he told Malaysiakini.
It is learnt that apart from determining the source of funds for the divisions, police are also looking into the leaders' assets.
However, the source declined to reveal the names of the divisions and their leaders who are being investigated.
Meanwhile, an Umno source did not rule out the possibility of at least half of the party's 191 divisions being investigated.
"When they (division leaders) checked with one another, they found that many of them have received the same letter (from the police unit).
“If the authorities are suspicious with regard to their funds, it is likely that they will freeze the division's account and this is not good for Umno's operation," he said. - Mkini
